LEARNING BRIEF

Learnings, Practices, and Approaches for Scaling Comprehensive Sexuality Education

The learning briefs in this series highlight key components of our model — approaches we have tested, refined, and implemented to deliver and scale CSE through Madagascar's public school system.

August 2026

The Starting Point

Since 2013, Projet Jeune Leader has equipped thousands of young adults, teacher-trainees, and community and government teachers to deliver comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) for the first time in lower secondary schools across Madagascar. Along the way, we've tested and refined key components of this model, making it more effective and able to scale.

In Brief

The learning briefs in this series capture some of our implementation learnings and best practices. Each one focuses on a different component of our model or approach that has proven essential to scaling CSE successfully. We're still learning and adapting, but these briefs reflect over a decade of experience of what's worked so far. We'll keep adding to this series over time, so check back for more!

Teacher Training: Preparing teachers to teach a comprehensive sexuality education subject

This brief covers PJL’s approach to preparing teachers to deliver sexuality education through initial training.

Training is a foundational driver for teachers to deliver comprehensive sexuality education effectively. Our results to date have shown that effective training and ongoing support, alongside a suite of other tools and strategies, make high-quality comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) possible in a low-resource context.
